Job Description

Strategic direction and development of the school. The Head Teacher will

  • Provide inspiring and purposeful leadership for the staff, teachers and students.
  • Work in partnership with the Aii, staff and parents generating the beliefs and values that will underpin the school.
  • Continue to implement a Development Plan that will secure continuous school improvement.
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of the school and respond and report to the management as required.
  • Ensure that management, finances, organization and administration of the school supports its vision and aims.
  • Ensure that school policies and practices take account of national, local and school requirements.
  • Monitor, evaluate and review the impact of policies, priorities and targets of the school in practice, and take action if necessary.
  • Ensure that all those involved in the school are committed to its aims, motivated to achieve them, and involved in meeting long, medium and short term objectives and targets which secure the educational success of the school.

Leading teaching and learning

  • Secure delivery of the highest possible standards of teaching and learning throughout the school.
  • Develop and maintain a focus on achievement, maximizing the potential and academic performance of all students against national and individual targets and aspirations.
  • Maintain effective assessment, recording and reporting systems of student progress and ensure these are used to challenge underperformance and drive improvement.
  • Build and maintain effective partnerships between school, students and parents to support learning.
  • Involve students, as appropriate, in the decision-making processes in the school by developing policies and practice that treat students as partners in the learning process.
  • Monitor, evaluate and review classroom practice and promote improvement strategies leading to raised standards.
  • Develop and implement a broad and relevant curriculum, which embraces the school’s specialisms, innovative approaches to teaching and learning, national initiatives and is at the forefront of best practice, to meet the needs of all students.
  • Ensure that educational provision and achievement for pupils with special needs are maximized through an appropriate mix of integrated and specialist needs provision.
  • Monitor and evaluate the curriculum for both quality and value for money.
  • Ensure that suitably challenging targets are set, including those for student attainment, progress, behavior and attendance.
  • Develop an ethos and structure for managing behavior, which enables each student to achieve their potential, including the management of pastoral care, student welfare and effective anti-bullying procedures.
  • Be outward facing, taking a strategic role in the development of new and emerging technologies to enhance and extend the learning experience of students and the pedagogical skills of staff, deploying technological resources effectively and efficiently in order to realize the aims of the school.
  • Create a culture of challenge, high expectations and support where all students can achieve success and be engaged in personalized learning, supported by a curriculum offer appropriate to their individual needs, aspirations and abilities.
  • Ensure a wide range of community-based, off-site and outdoor learning experiences are available.
  • To promote extracurricular activities in accordance with the educational aims of the school.

Leading and managing staff

  • Supervise ESL Teachers and other staff.
  • Plan, allocate, support and evaluate work undertaken by groups, teams and individuals, ensuring clear delegation of tasks and devolution of responsibilities in a manner consistent with conditions of employment.
  • Implement and sustain effective systems for the management of staff performance, incorporating performance management and target setting.
  • Promote and monitor the continuing professional development of staff, conduct a workshop or sharing sessions to the teachers under supervision.
  • Ensure that professional duties are fulfilled, as specified in the Terms and Conditions of Service of teachers, including those of head teacher. (Contract)
  • Participate in the arrangements made in accordance with the regulations for performance management and threshold assessment, and to participate in the identification of areas in which the Head teacher would benefit from further training and undergoing such training.
  • Ensure that a Head teacher assumes responsibility for the discharge of the head teacher’s function at any time when absent from school.
  • Continue the development of good working relationships with management, staff, students, parents/guardians and the community.

Accountability

  • Continue to develop an organization in which all the staff recognize that they are accountable for the success of the school.
  • Present a coherent and accurate account of the school’s performance in a form appropriate to the range of audiences, including the top management, head teachers, the local community, and others to enable them to play their part effectively.
  • Ensure that parents/guardians and students are well informed about the curriculum, attainment and progress and about the contribution they can make in supporting their child’s learning and achieving the school’s targets for improvement.
  • Provide information, objective advice and support to the management to enable it to meet its responsibilities for securing effective teaching and learning and improved standards of achievement, and for achieving efficiency and value for money.
  • Carry out any such duties as may be reasonably required by the management.

Safeguarding Students & Safer Recruitment

  • The policies and procedures adopted by the school are fully implemented and followed by all staff
  • Sufficient resources and time are allocated to enable the designated person and other staff to discharge their responsibilities, including taking part in strategy discussions and other inter-agency meetings, and contributing to the assessment of students.
  • All staff and the community feel able to raise concerns about poor or unsafe practice in regard to students, and such concerns are addressed sensitively and effectively in a timely manner in accordance with agreed whistleblowing practices.

Professional Development

  • Involve all staff in decision-making, as appropriate, in order that all who work in the school are committed to its development.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor/Master degree in Education or related field
  • Management experiences in education and related fields
  • Excellent problem solving skills, and able to use initiative
  • Ability to patiently work with people from a variety of backgrounds, cultures, religious views
  • Ability to calmly manage and prioritize multiple tasks
  • An approachable and friendly spirit, easy to smile and a can-do attitude
  • Excellent computer skills with the MS Office Suite and proficient with Social Media
  • Ability to understand and keep within a budget
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written in English
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills
